This book traces the history of
the Brinkmann Family from Levi Michael Bringmann, born in 1753 and
his wife Blumgen Isaac born in 1769 through their living
descendants. Their son, Moses Levi Bringmann, born August 19,
1796 in Frieda married Gudel Marcus, born July 22, 1802 in
Bettenhausen. Their son Michael who changed the spelling to
Brinkmann was born February 16, 1827 and emigrated to Philadelphia in
1855. His siblings, Hanchen, Dora, and Aron also
emigrated. Siblings Jetchen, Mariane, Levi, and Hentel stayed
in Germany. Bruce
Greenberg, the author, is the great, great, grandson of Michael
Brinkmann.
Michael Brinkmann was born in Frieda, and
graduated from medical school at the University of
Marburg in
1848. He served as a surgeon in the Army during the revolution
in Baden in 1848-1849. The
following year he was appointed assistant to the Court Physician and
placed in charge of the Alexanderbad, a famous German watering
place, the baths of which were believed to have curative
powers. His specialty was hydrotherapy. He continued
this specialty in Philadelphia and developed a large
medical practice.
